USA Prime Tampa Tryout Coverage Recap

USA Prime Tampa held their annual Summer tryout at Pasco Hernando State College this past weekend for their 2026, 2027, 2028 & 2029 teams. Coach Vlad Nunez and his staff have done a great job bringing in talent since they have started their program. This weekend we saw tremendous talent at PHSC, particularly on the mound. We saw a few Prospect Wire All American Alumni and also named a few Prospect Wire All American Watchlist Candidates.

Samir Mohammed (2027 RHP/CIF) is a Prospect Wire All American Alum who has really added to his game since we saw him last. Samir was up to 94 on a cold evening Friday night showcasing a power slider and a heavy changeup. Samir is one of the premier RHP's in the country which is why he was a member of the team USA 15u National team. Samir also put on an impressive display during BP on Saturday where he showcased the added strength since the last time we saw him.

Alex Capezzuti (2028 IF/OF) is another Prospect Wire All American alum who showed out again this weekend. Capezzuti is a physical 2028 with a plus bat. His smooth left handed swing was on full display Saturday during BP as he was barreling baseballs to both gaps.

Players who stood out and earned their way onto the Prospect Wire All American Watchlist include:

Matthew Werner (2027 RHP) who was up to 91 in his bullpen Friday really impressed our staff. Werner is a long, lanky RHP with good, clean actions down the mound. He pairs his electric fastball with a sharp horizontal breaking slider and and a power changeup. Werner is going to be an arm to watch as he continues to polish over the Spring and into the Summer.

Brody Marks (2027 C/RHP) impressed on the mound on Friday night getting his fastball up to 88 paired with a curveball/slider/changeup mix that should effectively keep hitters from sitting on his firm fastball. Marks then put on a show during BP consistently barreling balls to up the middle and to the pull side. Marks finished up his impressive weekend with a ball deep down the LF line in the live AB portion on Sunday.

Carson Wheatley (2028 LHP/OF) was impressive on the mound Friday and Sunday topping 85 both day. Wheatley has a long, projectable frame that he has added strength too since we saw him last however he still has the frame to continue to add more. Wheatley has cleaned up his mechanics as well and showed an ability to command his heavy fastball, 12-6 curveball, and changeup with some cut action. Wheatley has all the makings to be a fast riser the next few years as he continues to develop.

Oliver Dugan (2028 RHP/IF/OF) showcased his all around talent this weekend. Dugan shows to be a solid defender at a number of positions with plus arm strength getting up to 90mph from the OF as well as having plus stuff on the mound. With high spin metrics on both his fastball and his slider Dugan gave right handed hitters a hard time in Sunday's game action. Dugan's ability to spin the ball effectively will work in his favor as he continues to mature and add strength/size to his frame.

Jayden Allen (2028 RHP) showed total control on the mound on Sunday in game action. After getting jumped on a first pitch fastball to start his day, Allen settled in and dominated his next 6 hitters he faced. Allen is a polished RHP that if he continues to improve from a metrics aspect will rise fast due to his pitchability tool he possesses that is way beyond his age.

Knox Myers (2029 RHP) has the frame and arm at a young age to be one of the top arms in the country. Myers impressed Friday night in the bullpen session as he was up to 87 with a wipeout splitter and sharp breaking slider.
